body temperature scanning, or checking in at places would have been beyond our imagination in those simpler times.
Because of the Covid crisis we have been introduced to many new ways of doing things, and many of them have become part of today’s “Now Normal”. What kinds of things do you think are no longer “New”, but becoming a “Now Normal?” Let’s explore.
1. On-line shopping – Easy shopping at your fingertips
Nowadays most people have at least one on-line shopping application on their smart phones. The COVID-19 outbreak has forced many of us to stay home because of worries about getting infected outside. To eliminate such concerns, on-line shopping or e-marketplace applications seem to be the best alternatives to shopping outside our homes. Lately, e-commerce applications such as Shopee, Lazada, and others have been competing by launching promotional campaigns, warming the hearts of consumers. If we are not careful, we can become addicted to on-line shopping!
2. Distance learning – Smooth remote classroom learning
Currently many students are attending on-line classrooms. During the past semester schools and universities have been forced to shift their learning methods from physical classes to live television broadcasting and on-line learning via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Classroom. With the Covid situation starting to ease, on-line classrooms have been adopted in conjunction with physical classes. Virtual classrooms are now a “now normal”.
3. Contactless payments – Pay quickly and safely
With the pandemic, Thailand has almost completely become a cashless society. With policies and measures designed to minimize both direct and indirect contact, from stair rails to banknotes, it’s no surprise that QR code scanning for check-in, check-out, or payments has become easy as never before. Many department stores or even fresh markets have adopted QR code payments or PromptPay, allowing customers to transfer money instead of paying cash.
4. Drive-in cinemas – Enjoy the big screen safely in your own car
Drive-in cinemas have regained popularity in some countries, such as the US and South Korea. Thailand’s two major cinema chains, SF cinema and Major Cineplex, have organized drive-in movie events, allowing viewers in Thailand to get a chance to enjoy big screens in their own cars. There are no worries about Thailand;s hot climate because cars can connect to air conditioning and connect to audio signals via Bluetooth, and popcorn if of course available as well. Those missing big theater screens with good sound systems will definitely enjoy drive-in cinemas.
5. Remote working – Anywhere is possible
Working from home is now a buzzword for many. Many large corporations have allowed employees to work from home during the COVID-19 outbreak. With technological advancements, new tele-communication networks, and high-speed Internet, communicating with the workplace is no longer an issue. In addition, there are many applications and software programs designed to make on-line meetings function as smoothly as face-to-face meetings.
Do you know that SCB has adopted a new working policy in response to the COVID-19 outbreak? Because SCB truly cares about its employees, the Bank has created a new corporate culture and working styles featuring more flexibility, convenience, and speed. More importantly, staff can work from anywhere, which has become a “Now Normal” at SCB.
