Early Bird or Night Owl – Which are you?

Have you ever heard the proverb, “The early bird gets the worm?” Those who wake up early are branded as hard working, while those who wake up late are often blamed for being lazy. However, your sleep-wake behavior may be a result of genetics!

Research by University of Leicester genetic biologists studying the genes of those exhibiting early bird and night owl behavior revealed some interesting information for both types. For example, smart and high IQ children tend to grow into adults who enjoy staying up late and waking up late every day. One of the best-known night owls was Albert Einstein, the genius scientist who formulated the Theory of Relativity, and Charles Darwin, the naturalist who developed the Theory of Evolution.

However, that does not mean that night owls are better or more successful than early birds, because "intelligence" is not equivalent to "success." Early birds are more likely to succeed because they wake up early and are already preparing things while night owls are still asleep. They also like working pro-actively, plan ahead, and are always ready to bring their plans into reality.

It is evident that both early birds and night owls have their own strengths and weaknesses, which means it is impossible to judge one lifestyle as being better than the other. However, if you realize what kind of person you are you will be able to accept yourself and develop your weaknesses. Let's take a look at the differences between the two groups and discover which type you are!
