EP.3 Broken Heart Syndrome – Yes, you can die of a broken heart

When was the last time you walked in the rain, listening to a sad song, sitting down, and missing your loved one like those in music videos? Are you still sad now?

Will you ever heal from a broken heart? Many of us have experienced a broken heart, one sided love, or have been dumped. You can feel your heart ache as if the world is falling apart. Your mind may be floating elsewhere, and you are no longer what you used to be. It’s like you’re being robbed of your happiness. Despite being physically well, you feel like your heart is being cut with a knife and you feel a fire in your chest. These are the symptoms of a broken heart.

Many may say to you that time will heal everything. But time for those with a broken heart may seem to pass slower and take forever. Some people who can’t get over their grief can even die. Whoever said you won’t die from a broken heart may have to think again, because it has been medically confirmed that broken heart syndrome is a type of heart disease caused by stress due to a psychological state brought on by the sudden loss of a loved one. The sadness can trigger our body to release stress hormones into the bloodstream. As a result, the coronary arteries contract, weakening heart muscles, and the heart cannot fully pump blood to various organs of the body, leading to myocardial failure and eventually death.

You can see that heartbreak is not a joke. On the contrary, you have to carefully observe your heartbroken friends to determine the severity of their heartbreak symptoms. Some people are dumped so often that they become indifferent because they have developed immunity. But sentimental or sensitive people may experience sudden heartbreak when encountering grief from the loss of a loved one, being rejected, or having an accident. Those with broken heart syndrome can display the following symptoms:

  • Heart palpitations or heart rhythm problems
  • Severe chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea, dizziness, or fainting
  • Blood pressure drops.

Broken heart syndrome proves that mental pain can adversely affect our physical condition. Therefore, the solution to preventing heartbreak is to choose to associate with someone who will never leave us! By now, you might be laughing. It’s not easy to avoid choosing someone who might leave us. Otherwise, heartbreaking songs would not dominate the Billboard charts. But even so, it doesn’t mean that your heart will never be healed. Based on a proven medical study, people suffering from broken heart syndrome can recover within one to eight weeks.

A cardiologist from the Lankenau Medical Center in the United States has offered basic guidelines for treating a broken heart. This can be done easily by finding stress-reducing activities such as reading, practicing meditation, engaging in light exercise such as yoga, socializing with friends, or traveling to change the atmosphere. The saying that “Forest bathing is good for your health” might not be exaggerated. Let nature heal your heart and soul.

One day when you look back, you may be glad that he or she has left you and it’s their turn to regret letting a good person like you go!
